About this place

Banpo 4-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 12, Seocho, in the Archdiocese of Seoul, located at 38 Gomurae-ro 10-gil in Seocho-gu. It was established on September 25, 1998, and honors St. Andrew Kim Taegon, Korea's first priest and a martyr, as its patron.

The community was separated from Seocho Parish as the Catholic population of the area grew. It now serves local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, faith formation, and parish activities. The dedication of its new church in 2003 also strengthened its role as a place open to community interaction.

History & origins

Banpo 4-dong Parish was established on September 25, 1998, after separation from Seocho Parish. The new parish was created to provide independent pastoral care for the growing Catholic community in the Banpo area, and the current Catholic Church Directory records the same establishment date.

After becoming an independent parish, construction of a new church proceeded from 2000, and the new building was dedicated on October 26, 2003. Contemporary reporting described the church not only as a liturgical space but also as a place designed for cultural and community interaction with local residents.
