About this place

Bangi Catholic Church is a parish of District 10 (Songpa) of the Archdiocese of Seoul, located at 3 Garak-ro 42-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul. The current Catholic Church Directory in Korea records February 5, 2009 as its establishment date and lists the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary as its patronal feast.

It is a relatively young parish formed from territory and faithful formerly belonging to Ogeum-dong and Songpa-dong parishes. Today it serves as a center for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and fellowship for Catholics in Bangi-dong. The parish itself describes its aspiration to be a community of faith, love, sharing, and communion.

History & origins

Bangi Parish began in 2009 when faithful were separated from Ogeum-dong and Songpa-dong parishes to form a new community. Both the current Catholic Church Directory in Korea and the official parish profile's establishment field record February 5, 2009 as the parish's founding date.

The parish profile states that 3,163 faithful formed the new parish community at the time of separation. The narrative text on the same page also mentions February 17, however, so this account uses February 5, the date consistently given by the directory and the official establishment field.
