History & origins

As the Catholic population of Bangbaedong grew, Banpo Parish began preparations for a new church in 1981 and organized the Bangbae mission station that October. Bangbaedong Parish was then established as an independent parish on February 25, 1982.

The parish purchased the site of the present church in July 1982 and built a temporary church in 1983. Continued growth led to the purchase of additional adjacent land in 1984. Construction of a permanent church began in June 1986, and the three-story church with one basement level was completed in December 1987. The progression from mission station to parish, temporary church, and permanent church forms the core of its early history.
