About this place

Bangbae 4-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 12, Seocho, in the Archdiocese of Seoul, located at 102 Donggwang-ro in Seocho-gu. It was established on September 25, 1998, and honors the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of the Immaculate Conception as its patron.

The parish was created as the Catholic population of the Bangbae-Banpo area grew, initially serving areas of Bangbae bon-dong, Bangbae 4-dong, and part of Banpo 4-dong. It now functions as the local parish for Mass, the sacraments, faith formation, and community life.

History & origins

Bangbae 4-dong Parish was formally established as a new parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul on September 25, 1998. At the time, the community was organized around Bangbae bon-dong, Bangbae 4-dong, and part of Banpo 4-dong, and the current Catholic Church Directory records the same establishment date.

A secondary parish-history source reports that the first Mass was celebrated in a temporary church in August 1998, shortly before the formal establishment, and that an expansion of the church was completed in 2003. Because these building details rely on a secondary source rather than a primary official record, they are kept distinct from the firmly documented parish-establishment date.
