Nae Ga Chapel Mission Station

About this place

Samsan Mission Station of Naega Parish is a Catholic mission station in Samsan-myeon, Ganghwa County, where Catholics in the island area remain connected with their parish community through prayer and liturgical life. Historical Catholic records identify Samsan as one of the mission stations of the wider Ganghwa area, illustrating the important role that mission communities have played in sustaining Catholic life among believers scattered across islands and rural districts.

A mission station should be understood differently from an independent territorial parish: it is a local community attached to a parish. The central meaning of Samsan therefore lies not in exercising an independent parish jurisdiction, but in enabling Catholics who live at some distance from the parish church to gather for prayer and remain connected with the wider Church community. Because reliable public sources do not provide a sufficiently clear chronology of the present mission station’s establishment and later changes, this introduction focuses on its present character and the broader mission-station tradition of Ganghwa.
