About this place
Okgye Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Daegu at 13 Okgyesindang-ro 5-gil, Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. The official archdiocesan directory gives its patronal title as Our Lady of the Rosary and identifies it as the local parish serving Catholics in the Okgye area of Gumi.
The parish became an independent community in the early 2000s as the Okgye area developed. Today it continues its liturgical life, faith formation, and parish activities around its own parish church.
History & origins
Okgye Parish began as a new parish in September 2002 after separating from Indong Parish in Gumi. The Catholic community in the Okgye area thereby acquired its own parish structure, and the Archdiocese of Daegu records the establishment date as September 6, 2002.
A parish profile in the diocesan magazine Light records the dedication of the church in 2006. In 2010, the parish's missionary activity also received diocesan recognition through an award related to evangelization.
