About this place

Dasi Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Dasi-myeon, Naju, within the Naju-Hampyeong district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on September 10, 1998, with St. Augustine Yu Chin-gil as its patron.

Catholic community life in Dasi began before the parish itself was established. Catholic sources record that a church for the Dasi mission community, then under Yeongsanpo Parish, was built in 1969. After decades as a mission station, the community became an independent parish in 1998. When a new church was later built to replace the aging mission-era building, the old bell tower was preserved as a visible link with the earlier community.

Dasi Catholic Church therefore shows the development of a small rural mission community into an independent parish. The present church and the preserved older bell tower together express the continuity of faith maintained by local Catholics across generations.
