About this place
목포해군 성당 is a Navy parish of the Military Ordinariate of Korea, serving the Catholic life of service members and their families. Its current official address is 13 Gonghang-ro, Samho-eup, Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do. Its patronal dedication is the Immaculate Virgin Mary.
Unlike an ordinary territorial parish, it provides Masses, sacramental ministry, faith formation, and community pastoral care in a military setting. Access and schedules may be affected by base regulations and training, so visitors should contact the parish in advance.
History & origins
Mokpo Naval Parish was established on August 5, 1996. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea currently lists the parish at 13 Gonghang-ro, Samho-eup, Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, a location distinct from the Third Fleet base address given in the package.
The new church was completed in December 2024 and dedicated on August 31, 2025 by Bishop Titus Seo Sang-bum, ordinary of the Military Ordinariate. Built on an 8,221-square-meter site, the complex includes a church building and a two-story education building containing a kitchen, fellowship room, and priest’s residence. The project marked a major recent transition for the naval Catholic community in the Mokpo area.
