History & origins
Mokpo Naval Parish was established on August 5, 1996. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea currently lists the parish at 13 Gonghang-ro, Samho-eup, Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, a location distinct from the Third Fleet base address given in the package.
The new church was completed in December 2024 and dedicated on August 31, 2025 by Bishop Titus Seo Sang-bum, ordinary of the Military Ordinariate. Built on an 8,221-square-meter site, the complex includes a church building and a two-story education building containing a kitchen, fellowship room, and priest’s residence. The project marked a major recent transition for the naval Catholic community in the Mokpo area.
