History & origins

The Korean Catholic Directory records August 26, 1980, as the establishment date of Heukryong parish. The present parish in Baengnyeong-myeon is confirmed under the same name, address, and Navy affiliation within the Military Ordinariate, allowing the foundation record to be securely connected with today's Heukryong Catholic Church.

The Korean Catholic Encyclopedia's history of the military chaplaincy support association records that in November 1990, when the association resumed providing vehicles to military churches, it delivered one jeep to Heukryong Catholic Church on Baengnyeong Island. This is a concrete record showing that Church-wide support for the parish's military apostolate continued around the tenth year after its establishment.

Heukryong has continued thereafter as an independent parish of the Military Ordinariate. The 2025 clergy appointments list the pastorate of Heukryong separately, while the ordinariate's official 2024 appointments likewise show it as a distinct parish assignment. Records from different periods demonstrate the continuity of the parish's pastoral structure.
