About this place
Haebyeongdae Yoram Catholic Church is a Navy parish of the Military Ordinariate of Korea in Ocheon-eup, Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do. On its official website, the ordinariate separately presents it, together with the Naval Education and Training Command church, as one of its Navy-related “training-center churches,” and an official personnel notice identifies its assignment as the Marine Corps Education and Training Group.
For that reason, the parish's primary pastoral focus is on service members undergoing training and instruction at the education and training group. It is a setting of military chaplaincy where recruits can encounter Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and faith formation during the major transition of enlistment and training. Unlike a territorial parish with a relatively stable population, its pastoral environment is shaped by a training center in which the community changes rapidly according to successive training cycles.
History & origins
The Korean Catholic Directory records December 8, 2009, as the establishment date of the Haebyeongdae Yoram parish. The same source confirms its address in Ocheon, Pohang, and its affiliation with the Navy section of the Military Ordinariate, establishing the identity between the present parish and the foundation record.
Since its establishment, the parish has continued to function as a distinct assignment for a military chaplain. In the 2025 Military Ordinariate clergy appointments, “pastor of Haebyeongdae Yoram” again appears as a separate post, showing that the parish has become established as its own pastoral unit for the training-center apostolate.
