About this place
칠성 성당 is an Army-affiliated parish of the Military Ordinariate of Korea, serving the Catholic faith life of military personnel. It is currently located at 강원특별자치도 화천군 상서면 주파령로 40 - 13, and its patron is 성모의 종.
In keeping with the Military Ordinariate’s pastoral role, the parish supports service members’ faith life through catechesis, counseling, personal guidance, and ministry in the military setting. Because access and schedules can depend on military-site conditions, visitors should confirm current Mass times and access arrangements with the parish before going.
History & origins
칠성 성당 was established on September 1, 1972. Construction of a new church began on June 10, 1995, and was completed on May 22, 1996; the dedication was celebrated the following day, May 23, with Bishop Jeong Myeong-jo, then Ordinary of the Military Ordinariate, presiding.
The Catholic Times reported that the project included a single-story church of about 100 pyeong and a two-story annex of about 100 pyeong for an education hall and rectory. The record shows how the parish community’s long-standing church-building effort culminated in the dedication of the new church in 1996.
