About this place
Yongwon Catholic Church is a parish in the third pastoral area of the Changwon District of the Diocese of Masan. It serves as a center where Catholics in Cheongan-dong and the wider Yongwon area of Jinhae celebrate Mass and the sacraments, receive catechesis, and take part in parish community life. The Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea records the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as the parish patron.
Yongwon is organized as an independent parish rather than a mission station and serves as a pastoral center for Catholics in the eastern part of Jinhae. Its dedication to the Holy Family provides a spiritual sign pointing parishioners toward living the Christian life within family and neighborhood relationships.
History & origins
The Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea records December 26, 2007 as the establishment date of Yongwon Parish, and the Diocese of Masan’s list of parishes in the Changwon District likewise presents Yongwon as “Since 2007.” Because these two official listings point to the same year, it can be established that Yongwon became an independent parish community in 2007.
The bishops’ conference directory identifies the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as the parish patron. Publicly available official sources, however, do not provide a sufficiently detailed account of any mission-station phase before the parish, the acquisition and construction of the church site, or the precise process of separation from an earlier parish. The history presented here is therefore limited to the confirmed founding date and the parish’s establishment under the patronage of the Holy Family, without adding unverified details.
