About this place
Uiryeong Sacred Heart House is a retreat and prayer house within the Diocese of Masan. The official guide of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea identifies the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the religious congregation responsible for it. Rather than functioning as a territorial parish with jurisdiction over local Catholics, it is clearly intended as a spiritual setting for people who step away from ordinary routines to focus on prayer and reflection.
It should therefore be understood differently from a parish church with regular territorial pastoral responsibilities. A retreat house provides individuals and groups with a place for silence, prayer, and reflection on their relationship with God, and Uiryeong Sacred Heart House is included in the Diocese of Masan’s official listings of retreat and prayer facilities. For visitors, its essential identity is that of a religiously operated place for retreat and prayer rather than a site defined by changing Mass schedules or the names of current personnel.
