About this place
This location is the Masan community of the Daegu Province of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, a religious community situated within the Diocese of Masan. The Catholic Directory of Korea officially lists it as the “Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres (Daegu Province: Masan Community)” at the address in Duwol-dong, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon recorded in this package. Its basic identity is therefore that of a local religious community, not a parish church or a general retreat facility.
The Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres were founded in France in 1696 and entered Korea in 1888. In Korea, the congregation has served in parish ministry, education, social welfare, healthcare, and overseas mission. After the Daegu Province was established separately in 1967 to serve communities in the southeastern and southwestern regions of Korea, the Masan community came to belong within that provincial structure. This place can therefore be understood as a local base through which the congregation’s long history of apostolic service in Korea continues within the Diocese of Masan.
