About this place
Sinban Mission Station is a mission station of the Diocese of Masan in Burim-myeon, Uiryeong-gun, and it is listed in the Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea under the same name and location as in the package. Unlike an independent parish with a resident priest, a mission station is a local center where Catholics living at a distance from the parish church can gather for prayer and continue their life of faith. In this sense, Sinban serves Catholics in the Burim-myeon area as a place where a local faith community can be sustained.
The significance of a mission station lies less in the size of its building or the frequency of liturgies than in the way it keeps believers connected with one another and with the pastoral life of the parish across a broad rural area. The current Catholic directory clearly classifies Sinban as a mission station of the Diocese of Masan, so it should not be confused with an ordinary chapel or an independent parish church. For visitors, this distinction is also the most basic key to understanding the character of Sinban.
