About this place
Saryang Mission Station is a Catholic mission station of the Diocese of Masan serving Catholics in the island area of Saryang-myeon, Tongyeong. The current Catholic directory lists Saryang as a mission station of the diocese and explicitly identifies Daegun Parish as its mother parish. Its clearest role is to provide Catholics living on an island, separated from the parish church on the mainland, with a nearby place for prayer and community life.
Although Saryang is smaller than a parish, its significance is heightened by the geography of the island. Where priests and parishioners must cross the sea, a mission station functions as more than an auxiliary building; it becomes a local anchor that sustains the presence of the Church. The Catholic Encyclopedia of Korea also records Saryang among the mission stations under Daegun Parish, confirming the long-standing connection between this island Catholic community and the parish serving southwestern Tongyeong.
