Retreat Center

About this place

The Retreat House is a retreat and prayer facility within the Diocese of Masan operated under the responsibility of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance, specifically the Our Lady of Sujeong Trappist Monastery for women. The Catholic Directory in Korea and the nationwide guide to retreat and prayer houses both identify the same house and the same religious community, and it is located in the same Gusan-myeon setting as the monastery. Its central identity is as a place for those who wish to step away from the busyness of daily life and concentrate on prayer, silence, and interior reflection.

It is best understood not as an ordinary lodging facility or an independent parish, but as a place for retreat close to the contemplative life of a monastic community. The Cistercian life of strict observance places strong emphasis on prayer, silence, and common life, and the retreat house gives guests an opportunity to examine their own faith while encountering that monastic spirituality. Visitors are expected to respect the rhythm of the monastery and the character of the retreat setting, using the house primarily for quiet prayer and reflection.
