History & origins
The Masan Catholic Education Center was built around the fortieth anniversary of the Diocese of Masan as part of an effort to create a lasting diocesan base for formation and retreat. The diocesan chronology records a groundbreaking ceremony on September 14, 2006, in the Nanpo-ri area of Gusan-myeon. This marked the beginning of a common diocesan facility designed to go beyond parish-level classrooms and accommodate residential retreats and larger formation programs.
Construction continued for roughly two years, and the center was dedicated on June 14, 2008. It then became a base where the diocese could conduct faith formation, pastoral training, and lay education in one place. Programs requiring sustained study and residence, including diocesan faith courses, Bible formation, and Cursillo, subsequently made use of the facility.
Diocesan records from 2023 still show Bible-education volunteer retreats, a diocesan lay council meeting, and Cursillo sessions being held there. Its function has therefore not been limited to a single program but has adapted to different educational and spiritual needs of the diocese. The 2006 groundbreaking and 2008 dedication are the central milestones in the center's history, while its continued use shows how it became a practical foundation for formation and spiritual life across the diocesan community.
