About this place
Jangdeung Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Masan in Area 2 of the Changwon District, serving the liturgical and faith life of Catholics around Jangdeung in Jinyeong-eup, Gimhae. The Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea lists the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as the parish patron and records that the parish also has a mission station attached to it.
Although Jangdeung is a relatively recently established independent parish, its present significance is found less in the date of foundation than in the ordinary life it sustains as a local Church community. Through Mass, the sacraments, faith formation, and parish activities, it helps Catholics in the Jinyeong area continue their faith within the Diocese of Masan and the wider Church. Jangdeung Parish was established on January 3, 2022. The Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea records this as its official date of foundation, and the official history of the Diocese of Masan likewise lists the establishment of Jangdeung in 2022 as one stage in the continuing expansion of the diocese’s parish network.
The foundation of Jangdeung belongs to the more recent phase in which the Diocese of Masan has established new parishes in response to demographic change and the growth of Catholic communities in the Changwon and Gimhae area. This research did not, however, secure sufficiently authoritative primary documentation identifying the exact mother parish from which Jangdeung was separated or the detailed sequence of construction and blessing of the church. Those details have therefore not been inferred.
The current official directory records Jangdeung as an independent parish, with the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as its patron. On the evidence available, its history can be understood as that of a new parish that began in 2022 and has since been forming a local Catholic community in the Jinyeong area.
