About this place
The Masan branch of the Missionary Sisters of Korea is a women’s missionary religious community registered in the Catholic Directory in Korea as a branch belonging to the Diocese of Masan and living in Gaya-eup, Haman County. Haman Catholic Church is located at the same address, showing that the sisters’ community is closely connected with the local parish. The place is not an ordinary parish or retreat house but a local religious community in which the sisters live their missionary vocation through common life and prayer.
The Missionary Sisters of Korea were established within the Korean Church to form and send missionaries abroad and to participate in the evangelizing mission of the universal Church. The Masan branch can therefore be understood as a local point where this missionary identity is lived within the diocesan Church. Visitors should distinguish the parish functions of Haman Catholic Church from the identity of the sisters’ branch. The significance of the place lies in the continuing presence of a Korean religious community oriented toward world mission while living a life of prayer and service within the local Church.
