About this place
Gohyeon Catholic Church is a parish in Area 2 of the Geoje District of the Diocese of Masan. In the central urban area of Geoje, it serves as a local pastoral center where Catholics gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. The Catholic directory records St. Joseph as the parish patron and confirms that Gohyeon continues to function as an independent parish alongside the other parishes of the Geoje District.
The character of the parish is closely connected with the rapid urbanization of the Gohyeon and Jangpyeong area as the shipbuilding industry expanded. Today the church gives Catholics a place to continue liturgy and prayer close to daily residential and commercial life. Its patronage by St. Joseph provides a spiritual frame for viewing family and work through faith, while the parish itself sustains Catholic community life in a city that grew quickly around it. The diocesan district listing also clearly places Gohyeon among the parishes of Area 2 in the Geoje District, underscoring that it is a formal parish serving the urban area rather than a temporary community or auxiliary facility.
