About this place
Baegun Mission Station is a Catholic mission station of the Diocese of Masan in Baekjeon-myeon, Hamyang-gun. The current Catholic directory lists Baegun as a mission station of the diocese, and the Catholic Encyclopedia of Korea also records it among the mission communities of the Hamyang area. In a mountainous rural region, it helps bridge the distance to a parish church by giving Catholics a nearby place for prayer and community life.
Hamyang-gun covers a broad area of towns and villages, making mission stations closely connected with the continuity of local Catholic life. Baegun can likewise be understood as a place that allows a Catholic community to remain rooted within the Baekjeon-myeon area. The jurisdictional information in the Catholic Encyclopedia is historical, however, and is not used by itself to determine the current mother parish or liturgical arrangements. Because official public information is limited, this introduction focuses on the verified identity of Baegun as a mission station of the Diocese of Masan and on its meaning for a rural local community.
