About this place

Mangmi Catholic Church is a parish of the Namcheon District in the Diocese of Busan, serving Catholics in the Mangmi and Suyeong area of Busan. The directory of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea confirms its present location and diocesan affiliation and lists the Most Holy Trinity as its patron. The parish is a center of ordinary Catholic life where local faithful gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and prayer.

Diocesan records show activities that connect people of different generations and stages of faith: the parish’s senior academy provided scholarships to Sunday-school students, while catechumens and their sponsors took part together in pilgrimages to diocesan sites of faith. The parish also renewed an old retaining wall with murals depicting figures and symbols of Catholic faith, illustrating a distinctive effort to use the parish environment itself as a visible sign of faith open to the surrounding community.

History & origins

Mangmi Parish was established on February 6, 1982. The directory of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea records both the date of establishment and the Most Holy Trinity as the parish patron.

In 2013, the parish’s Neulsarang Senior Academy awarded scholarships to Sunday-school students, an example of an older generation supporting the faith life of the next. The following year, the parish renovated an old retaining wall and created a mural stretching about sixty meters, depicting Catholic figures such as Mother Teresa, Cardinal Stephen Kim Sou-hwan, and Pope Francis, after which the renewed wall was blessed.

In 2015, catechumens and their sponsors made a pilgrimage together to Namcheon Cathedral, the diocesan exhibition hall, and the Jangdaegol martyrdom site. These records from the years after the parish’s establishment show a community seeking to carry forward its memory and faith through intergenerational care, renewal of its physical surroundings, and the formation of those preparing for baptism.
