About this place
Yeongdeung-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Catholic Diocese of Jeonju, serving Catholics in Yeongdeung-dong and neighboring residential areas of Iksan. Current diocesan information identifies St. Peter Son Seon-ji, one of the Korean Martyrs, as the parish patron and lists a broad urban territory including several apartment districts in Yeongdeung-dong as well as Cheongbok, Yakchon, and parts of Namjung-dong and Ma-dong.
A community of the Congregation of Jesus also serves with the parish. According to diocesan records, Yeongdeung-dong Catholic Church was established on December 16, 1983. From that date the community took its place as a distinct parish of the Diocese of Jeonju, with St. Peter Son Seon-ji as its patron.
The parish has continued to serve Yeongdeung-dong and neighboring residential areas, including parts of Namjung-dong and Ma-dong. The wide territory shown in current diocesan records indicates that the parish has become one of the established centers of Catholic life in urban Iksan.
