Holy Family's Capuchin Sisters

About this place
The Jeonju branch of the Capuchin Tertiary Sisters of the Holy Family is a religious community connected with “Amigo House,” a group home for children and young people in the Diocese of Jeonju. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea lists the Jeonju branch at Amigo House on Pyeonun-ro in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju, while the diocese itself describes the same place as a social-welfare facility for children and adolescents who cannot receive sufficient care in their families.
The distinctive character of this community is the close union of religious life with the care of children and young people. The Diocese of Jeonju describes the mission of Amigo House as service to children and adolescents in need, inspired by the poor and evangelical life of St. Francis. The place is therefore more than a residence for sisters: it is a setting in which the congregation’s charism takes concrete form through protection and accompaniment, closely linked with the social-welfare ministry of the Diocese of Jeonju.
History & origins
The Capuchin Tertiary Sisters of the Holy Family entered Korea in 1996. Their direct history in Jeonju took shape in 2003, when the congregation was seeking an apostolate in the Jeonbuk area suited to its mission and the Diocese of Jeonju proposed that the sisters operate a facility for vulnerable children in the city.
On March 25, 2004, Bishop Lee Byeong-ho presided over the blessing and Mass for “Amigo House,” and the Diocese of Jeonju recorded the occasion as the congregation’s first entry into the diocese. Three sisters initially took responsibility for the group home and began caring for children who could not receive adequate protection in their own families.
This apostolate continued, and in 2024 a thanksgiving Mass marked the twentieth anniversary of Amigo House. The fact that today’s Jeonju branch is listed at the same Amigo House location shows the continuity of the congregation’s Jeonju ministry since 2004, centered on the protection and accompaniment of children and young people.
