About this place
The Jeonju branch of the Secular Institute of Mary is a community listed by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea as belonging to the Diocese of Jeonju and is located in Heungdeok-myeon, Gochang-gun. Its official English name is “Secular Institute of Mary.” Rather than a parish church, the place is best understood as a local base connected with members who live a consecrated secular vocation in the midst of ordinary society.
A secular institute is a form of consecrated life in which members live the evangelical counsels without making monastic common life or a religious habit essential to their vocation, carrying their consecration and apostolate into everyday work and social life. The Secular Institute of Mary emphasizes the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience together with secular consecration, offering one’s whole life to God while living the Gospel within the world. The Jeonju branch is a local point where this form of consecrated secular life continues within the Diocese of Jeonju.
