Pyeonghwa-dong Catholic Church is a parish in District 3 of the Diocese of Jeonju, serving Pyeonghwa-dong and parts of neighboring areas in Jeonju. Current diocesan records identify St. Bartholomew Jeong Mun-ho as the parish patron. Pyeonghwa-dong is documented as a community established during the reorganization and expansion of parish structures in Jeonju in the 1980s. Current diocesan records give January 24, 1987 as the establishment date of Pyeonghwa-dong Parish. A diocesan archive list from the same period also preserves the title of a February 8, 1987 report, “New Inhu-dong and Pyeonghwa-dong Parishes and Expansion of Districts,” confirming that Pyeonghwa-dong began amid a wider diocesan process of creating parishes and reorganizing pastoral jurisdictions.
The official sources currently available do not allow a detailed reconstruction of the earliest temporary church or the construction and blessing of the present building. Unsupported claims about a mother parish, building date, or relocation are therefore omitted. What can be stated securely is that Pyeonghwa-dong Parish was established in early 1987 and has continued as a parish community serving the southern part of Jeonju.
