About this place
Munjeong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Jeonju serving the southern part of Jeonju, with Our Lady of the Rosary as its patron. It is the local parish where Catholics from Munjeong, Daejeong, and nearby residential districts gather around the Mass and the sacraments.
Reflecting its development alongside the expansion of southern Jeonju, the parish embraces both apartment communities and older neighborhoods. The church functions not only as a place of worship but also as a center for catechesis, parish organizations, and intergenerational fellowship, while devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary forms a central element of its spiritual identity.
History & origins
Munjeong Parish was established on August 26, 2001, after being separated from Pyeonghwa-dong Parish. The new parish responded to the growth of residential areas and the Catholic population in southern Jeonju, allowing Catholics in Munjeong and Daejeong to participate in parish life closer to home.
After its establishment, the community gradually developed not only the church but also facilities needed for education and pastoral ministry. In December 2011, Bishop Vincent Ri Pyung-ho presided over the blessing of a new education center, convent, and rectory. The three-story building included an education hall and small chapel, meeting rooms, priest residences, and a convent.
Diocesan reporting at the time noted that, as the parish marked its tenth anniversary, the community raised construction funds through various parish activities and fundraising efforts. The blessing marked an important stage in the parish's growth from an early foundation into a more stable community with spaces for education, pastoral ministry, clergy, and religious sisters.
