About this place
Mohyeon-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Jeonju serving the Iksan area, with the Most Holy Trinity as its patronal mystery. It is a local center of Catholic life where the faithful of Mohyeon-dong and its surroundings gather around the Mass and the sacraments, and it is listed by the Diocese of Jeonju as an independent parish.
As a relatively recently established urban parish, it reflects the growth of the Catholic community alongside residential development in western Iksan. The church is not only a place for liturgy but also a center for catechesis, fellowship, and parish pastoral activity, while devotion to the Holy Trinity serves as an important expression of the parish's identity.
History & origins
Mohyeon-dong Parish was established on June 5, 2004, after being separated from Songhak-dong Parish. From the beginning, the new parish needed its own church and community facilities, and construction of a new church began in November of that year.
The project continued for about a year and a half. According to the Catholic Times, the parish priest and parishioners participated directly in the work to reduce construction costs despite the community's relatively small size. On a site of roughly 900 pyeong, they built a single-story complex consisting of the church and a community facility known as the House of Sharing. The new church was dedicated on April 22, 2006, in a liturgy presided over by Bishop Vincent Ri Pyung-ho of Jeonju.
This process marks the period in which the newly formed parish moved beyond a temporary stage and acquired its own liturgical space and pastoral foundation. Since then, Mohyeon-dong Parish has continued its history as a local parish in western Iksan, centered on the church that its early community worked together to build.
