Sisters of the Word of God

About this place

The Jeonju community of the Sisters of the Annunciation of the Divine Word is registered in the directory of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea as a women’s religious community belonging to the Diocese of Jeonju and is located in Hamyeol-eup, Iksan. The congregation’s official English designation is given as Sisters of the Annunciation of the Divine Word. Because this is a branch community of consecrated women rather than a parish or ordinary church, the place is centered on religious prayer, common life, and living the congregation’s charism.

The Sisters of the Annunciation of the Divine Word began in 1960 through Father Lawrence Son Jong-wan and developed within the Catholic Church in Korea. As the name suggests, the congregation gives particular importance to the attitude of the Virgin Mary who hears and receives the Word of God, seeking to carry that Word into life and apostolic service. The Jeonju community shares this spirituality and religious tradition as a local community of the congregation.
