History & origins

The origins of Jeongneung 4-dong Parish are tied to plans to expand its mother parish, Jeongneung-dong. In 1994 Jeongneung-dong began planning a larger church to accommodate its growing membership, but the Seoul Archdiocese later favored smaller parish communities closer to local neighborhoods, and the plan shifted toward creating a separate parish.

Jeongneung 4-dong Parish was formally established on October 5, 2001, and Father Ignatius Song Rak became its first pastor. A community of the Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was opened the following year, and in 2002 the parish also completed a rectory and convent, establishing the basic infrastructure for pastoral life.

The church was dedicated on May 18, 2003, in a liturgy presided over by Archbishop Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk. Through these steps the new community developed from a subdivision of Jeongneung-dong into an established local parish in its own right.
