About this place
The Missionary Society of St. Columban maintains the “Jeju Columban Priests’ Residence” within the Diocese of Jeju. The society’s official information confirms the residence on Yongdam-ro 7-gil in Jeju City, and the Catholic directory also lists it as a missionary-society base associated with the Diocese of Jeju. Rather than functioning like a territorial parish, the place is best understood as a residence and missionary base supporting the presence and work of Columban priests in Jeju.
The Missionary Society of St. Columban has long emphasized proclaiming the Gospel across national and cultural boundaries and supporting the growth of local churches. The history of the Diocese of Jeju also records the work of Columban missionaries after liberation and the St. Isidore initiatives begun by Father P. J. McGlinchey as important currents in the development of the local Church and society. The Jeju Columban residence is significant as a concrete place that continues this missionary society’s presence on the island today.
