About this place

Nohyeong Catholic Church is the church of Nohyeong Holy Trinity Parish in the western urban district of the Diocese of Jeju. According to the official diocesan guide, the parish serves Nohyeong-dong, Dodu-dong, and Iho-dong, and its patron is Saint Thomas Aquinas. Covering urban and residential areas west of Jeju Airport, it is a parish center where Catholics gather for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community activities.

Nohyeong Parish was formed by separation from Sinjeju Parish as western Jeju City expanded. Unlike parishes that grew gradually from old rural mission stations, Nohyeong reflects the need for a new pastoral unit created by population growth and urban development. Today's Nohyeong Church is one of the Diocese of Jeju's major urban parishes, connecting and organizing the faith life of local Catholics within a rapidly changing city environment.

History & origins

The establishment of Nohyeong Parish was directly connected with the rapid urban growth of western Jeju City in the 1990s. According to the official diocesan history, a plan to divide Sinjeju Parish was prepared in early 1995, and construction of a new church began on the present site. The project was intended to provide more focused pastoral care for the expanding urban territory previously served by Sinjeju.

After the new church was completed, Nohyeong Parish was formally separated from Sinjeju Parish on September 11, 1997, at the same time as the dedication of the new church. Because the dedication and parish establishment occurred together, the new community began with its own worship space and independent pastoral structure.

On January 25, 1998, the establishment of Hagwi Parish brought another adjustment to part of Nohyeong's territory. Since then the parish has developed its present pastoral area amid continued population growth and urban change in western Jeju City. Its history clearly reflects the Diocese of Jeju's late-1990s response to urbanization through parish division and territorial reorganization.
