Mureung Mission Station is a Catholic mission community under Moseulpo Parish in the Diocese of Jeju. The diocesan page for Moseulpo Parish lists Mureung as its current mission station, and the diocesan Mass information also includes a separate liturgical schedule for Mureung. Although it is not an independent parish, it connects Moseulpo Parish with Catholics in the Mureung area of Daejeong-eup, allowing the local community to gather for prayer and Mass closer to where they live.
It is important to distinguish the mission station from a parish. Mureung does not have its own territorial jurisdiction but functions within the pastoral care of Moseulpo Parish, helping sustain Catholic community life close to a rural village. History & origins
The origin of Mureung Mission Station is connected with the elevation of Moseulpo to parish status in 1958. The official diocesan history states that Moseulpo Parish established Mureung Mission Station that year together with Hwasun Mission Station. This was part of an effort to extend the mission-station network so that Catholics scattered across the villages of Daejeong-eup could maintain a shared faith life within their local area despite distance and rural conditions.
The mission station remained under Moseulpo Parish for decades, and in May 2002 it was rebuilt and moved to its present site. Because the diocese explicitly describes this as a new construction and relocation, the present building should not be understood as the original 1958 structure but as a later liturgical space created while the community itself continued.
Mureung remains a mission station of Moseulpo Parish and is still included in the diocesan liturgical schedule. Its history of foundation and relocation shows that rural mission stations in Jeju have functioned not simply as buildings but as pastoral structures that sustain Catholic communities in villages distant from the parish church.
