History & origins
The Sisters of Caritas of Jesus was founded on August 15, 1937, and the history of its Korean community began when the congregation entered Korea in October 1956. Its apostolates subsequently expanded into parishes and into educational and welfare ministries in several dioceses.
A direct connection with Sang 1-dong in Bucheon is documented in February 1999. The official chronology of the Suwon Province records that sisters were sent to Sang 1-dong Parish at that time. Today, the Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea lists the community at the same address as “Suwon Province: Incheon Community,” confirming that the parish assignment developed into the present local community.
The congregation's organization in Korea was later reshaped as its provincial structure changed, while the Sang 1-dong community continued as one of the Suwon Province's apostolates in the Diocese of Incheon. The sequence from the congregation's foundation and arrival in Korea to the 1999 assignment at Sang 1-dong shows how this community arose within the wider expansion of the congregation's mission.
