The Catholic Times reported that the diocese created seven new parishes at the time and that Wonjong 2-dong was separated from Yeowol-dong Parish. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records January 14, 2008, as its official foundation date.
The separation organized Catholics in the Wonjong 2-dong living area, previously served within Yeowol-dong Parish, into a distinct pastoral community. It can be understood within the broader process of subdividing parishes so that growing urban populations and changing residential patterns could be served through a more local parish unit for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community activities.
