About this place
Songdo Parish of the Body and Blood of Christ belongs to the Yeonsu District of the Diocese of Incheon. The Catholic Church directory in Korea currently lists it under the name “Songdo Body and Blood of Christ.” Within Songdo International City it functions as a local parish for Mass, the sacraments, formation in faith, and community life. The title “Body and Blood of Christ” places the Eucharistic mystery, which stands at the heart of Catholic faith, directly in the parish’s name and gives the community a distinctive identity.
The community is a relatively young parish established amid the rapid development of Songdo and the growth of its Catholic population, and it has recently undergone major changes in both its name and church facilities. The present title replaced the former name “Songdo 2-dong Parish,” shifting the emphasis from an administrative place name to an explicitly Eucharistic identity. Visitors can therefore understand the parish both as a neighborhood parish of the new city and as a community whose name publicly expresses a Catholic identity centered on the Eucharist.
History & origins
The present Songdo Parish of the Body and Blood of Christ began in 2014 as “Songdo 2-dong Parish.” The Catholic Times records that it was established by separation from the Incheon Catholic University Korean Martyrs Parish, while the Catholic Church directory in Korea gives September 2014 as the time of establishment. The community was formed during a period of rapid growth in the Songdo new city, when an independent parish was needed within the developing residential area.
The parish later continued the process of securing a permanent church of its own. According to the Catholic Times, construction of a new church began at a site in Songdo-dong in March 2024. This marked an important stage in the development of a new-city parish that had begun in more temporary or commercial premises and was moving toward a lasting community base. The current Catholic Church directory now lists the parish at the new church location rather than the older address recorded in the export package, showing that the move has also been reflected in current administrative information.
On December 16, 2025, the Diocese of Incheon changed the parish name from “Songdo 2-dong Parish” to “Songdo Parish of the Body and Blood of Christ.” This was not a new establishment but a renaming of the same community that had continued since 2014, giving it a title with an explicitly Eucharistic meaning. The parish’s history can therefore be traced through three connected stages: establishment for pastoral care in the new city, construction of a permanent church, and the adoption of a name centered on the Body and Blood of Christ.
