Simgokbon-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Incheon located in Songnae-dong, Bucheon, and serves as a pastoral center for the Catholic community in the area. History & origins
The official Korean Catholic directory records February 16, 1982, as the establishment date of Simgokbon-dong Parish. The parish began at a time when the Catholic population in Bucheon was expanding and existing parish territories required further division, and it subsequently became an independent pastoral base for Catholics in the Songnae-dong area.
The development of the parish was recalled in 2012 at its thirtieth-anniversary Mass. Under the theme “Thirty Years of Gratitude, Thirty Years of Hope,” former pastors, clergy and religious from the parish, and lay parishioners gathered for the celebration. The program also included a video recounting three decades of parish history and recognition of parishioners who had maintained their parish registration throughout those years.
The anniversary is significant because it presented parish history not merely as a list of dates, but as a shared memory of faith to be handed on to the next generation. Simgokbon-dong Catholic Church continues its Catholic life in Bucheon on the foundation of the community formed since its establishment.
