About this place
Juan 7-dong Catholic Church is one of the newer parishes in the Michuhol district of the Diocese of Incheon, formed by dividing territory from existing parishes in the Juan area. The community now celebrates Mass and the sacraments and conducts catechesis and parish life in its own church near Michuhol-daero. The official Catholic directory confirms that Juan 7-dong was established as a parish of the Diocese of Incheon in 2023.
From the beginning, the parish had to build both a new community and a new church. It started in a temporary commercial-space chapel and, within a relatively short period, secured a permanent parish complex. Juan 7-dong therefore represents a recently formed urban parish created in response to changing population patterns and pastoral needs.
History & origins
Juan 7-dong Parish was established in January 2023 and immediately began forming its first parish community. Its members came from areas formerly served by Juan 1-dong, Juan 3-dong, and Juan 8-dong Parishes. Until a permanent church could be built, the new parish used a nearby commercial building as a temporary worship space.
Construction of the new church began in November 2023. The building was completed in January 2025, and the first Mass in the new church was celebrated soon afterward. In May 2025 the church was formally dedicated by the diocesan bishop. The complex includes not only the main liturgical space but also catechetical rooms, pastoral offices, a dining area, and a rectory, giving the new parish a stable base for independent ministry.
The rapid progression from parish foundation to the dedication of a permanent church is the most distinctive feature of its short history. Juan 7-dong illustrates a recent pastoral pattern in the Diocese of Incheon in which Catholics from established parishes form a new local community and build the structures needed for an independent parish.
