Juan 3-dong Catholic Church is a parish church in the Michuhol district of the Diocese of Incheon, dedicated to the Holy Spirit. It serves as a local center where Catholics from Juan 3-dong and nearby neighborhoods celebrate Mass and the sacraments and take part in catechesis and apostolic activities. The official Catholic directory identifies it as a Diocese of Incheon parish established in 1975.
The parish emerged as the Catholic population of the Juan area grew and pastoral territories were divided so that parish life could remain close to local communities. Its boundaries were adjusted again as new neighboring parishes were created, while Juan 3-dong continued to serve as a stable Catholic center in the southern part of Juan.
History & origins
Juan 3-dong Parish began in 1975 during a period of parish division in the Juan area. The Korean Catholic Encyclopedia records that Juan 2-dong Parish was separated from Juan 1-dong Parish and that this community developed into today’s Juan 3-dong Parish. The history of Yonghyeon Parish likewise confirms the establishment of Juan 2-dong Parish at that time.
After the parish became established, continued growth in the southern Juan and Hagik areas led to further pastoral reorganization. In 2008, Hagik 1-dong Parish was created from territory formerly served by Juan 3-dong and Yonghyeon Parishes. This reflects the broader pattern in southern Incheon, where expanding urban populations led to increasingly smaller parish territories.
The history of Juan 3-dong is therefore a sequence in which a local Catholic community grew into an independent parish and later helped give rise to new communities. Through these changes, the parish has continued its mission under the patronage of the Holy Spirit for Catholics in the Juan and Hagik areas.
