Franciscan Brothers Ganghwa Breath Spirituality Center

About this place

The Ganghwa Sum Spirituality Center (Jeong-dong Branch) of the Order of Friars Minor is a Franciscan spirituality center and branch community on Ganghwa Island. The official Catholic Church Directory in Korea registers it as a male institute of consecrated life within the Diocese of Incheon and confirms that friars responsible for the center’s operation and friars in residence form the local community. As its name indicates, it is not simply a residence for religious but a Franciscan community with the specific function of a spirituality center.

The official directory distinguishes roles for overall responsibility, center direction, collaboration, and residence, showing a structure in which community life and a spiritual apostolate are carried out together. The center can therefore be understood as a place where the prayer and common life of the Friars Minor provide a setting for visitors to reflect on their faith and spend time in spiritual recollection. Its present identity lies in this meeting of Franciscan community life and spiritual accompaniment within the setting of Ganghwa Island.
