The Gwangju Province of the Caritas Sisters of Jesus is a women’s religious community at 20-22 Ipha 2an-gil, Imam-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea gives this address as the representative address of the Gwangju Province and records the congregation as founded in 1937 and established in Korea in 1956.
Archdiocesan records state that the former Korean province was divided into the Gwangju, Seoul, and Suwon provinces in December 2009, with a provincial inauguration Mass held at the congregation’s Imam-dong house. The current directory distinguishes the provincial house, novitiate, and education center at the same address.
This place is therefore not an ordinary territorial parish church, but a central religious community of the Gwangju Province of the Caritas Sisters of Jesus.
