Seogyo-dong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Seogyo-dong, Yeosu, within the Yeosu district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on September 26, 1961, with the Sacred Heart of Jesus as its patronal title.

Founded in the early 1960s, Seogyo-dong Parish took shape during a period of growth for the Catholic community in Yeosu and has continued to serve local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community activities. According to the archdiocese's information on missionary institutes, the Missionaries of Guadalupe began parish ministry in Yeosu in 1963, and Seogyo-dong was among their early pastoral assignments.

The church is therefore both a local parish dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a place where the history of collaboration between the Archdiocese of Gwangju and foreign missionaries in the 1960s can be remembered. Its present parish life and that early missionary history together shape the meaning of the site.
