About this place
Sapyeong Mission Station is a Catholic mission community in Sapyeong-myeon, Hwasun County, belonging to Hwasun Parish in the Archdiocese of Gwangju. Both the archdiocese and the Catholic Church Directory in Korea confirm that it was established on March 17, 2010 and is located at 200 Saho-ro.
A Korean Catholic gongso, or mission station, is a local faith community smaller than an independent parish, where Catholics gather for prayer and communal religious life under the pastoral care of a mother parish. Sapyeong serves Catholics in Sapyeong-myeon and nearby areas and keeps them connected with Hwasun Parish. The current archdiocesan page still uses the former administrative name Nam-myeon, but the address and community identity agree with the national directory.
The site is therefore best understood not as an independent parish church with a resident priest, but as a local prayer place and faith community belonging to Hwasun Parish. Its role as a mission community established in 2010 is central to the meaning of the place.
