About this place
Sansu-dong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Sansu-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju, within the Gwangju East district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on February 8, 1997, with St. John of God as its patron.
Founded in the late 1990s, Sansu-dong Parish provides an independent pastoral center for a Catholic community that developed in eastern Gwangju. It continues to serve local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community activities.
The church is therefore best understood not as a special pilgrimage site or historic monument, but as a modern local parish of Gwangju under the patronage of St. John of God. The liturgical and pastoral life sustained by the community since 1997 is central to the meaning of the place.
