About this place
Samhakdo Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Sanjeong-dong, Mokpo, within the Mokpo-Sinan district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on September 20, 1982, with St. Joseph as its patron.
Founded in the early 1980s, Samhakdo Parish serves Catholics in the urban and harbor area of Mokpo through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community activities. Although its address is in Sanjeong-dong, it is a parish distinct from the historic Sanjeong-dong Parish and continues as an independent parish of the Mokpo-Sinan district.
The church is therefore best understood as a modern local parish of Mokpo under the patronage of St. Joseph. The liturgical and pastoral life sustained by the community since 1982 is central to the meaning of the place.
