About this place
Samgak-dong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Samgak-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, within the Gwangju North 2 district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on February 4, 1999, with St. Peter Kwon Deuk-in as its patron.
Founded at the end of the 1990s, Samgak-dong Parish provides an independent pastoral center for a Catholic community that developed in northern Gwangju. It continues to serve local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community activities.
The church is therefore best understood as a modern local parish of Gwangju under the patronage of St. Peter Kwon Deuk-in. Rather than an old pilgrimage site, its central meaning lies in the liturgical and pastoral life sustained by the parish community since 1999.
