The Maeweol-dong community of the Salesian Sisters is the novitiate of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians on Jeonpyeong-gil in Seo-gu, Gwangju. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea identifies it as the Salesian Sisters' novitiate in the Archdiocese of Gwangju and gives the international name Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, abbreviated F.M.A.
The congregation was founded on August 5, 1872 and entered Korea on April 24, 1957. Because the Maeweol-dong house is officially designated as a novitiate, its defining character is not that of an ordinary parish church but of a place of formation in which religious life is prepared for and deepened.
The Salesian Spirituality House is located at the same address, but the functions of the two targets are distinct. This entry refers specifically to the religious formation community rather than the retreat facility itself, with prayer, common life, and formation at the center of its identity.
