녹동 성당

Nokdong Catholic Church is a parish church of the Archdiocese of Gwangju in Doyang-eup, Goheung County, within the archdiocese's south-central district. The archdiocese records the parish as established on December 12, 1980, and names Joanna Frances as its patron. Today it is a center for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life in Doyang-eup and the surrounding area.

The Catholic community in Nokdong began earlier, as a mission community in the late 1950s. According to the Korean Catholic Encyclopedia, land was secured in the early 1960s and a small chapel and priest's residence were built, giving the community a stable base. The growing mission was separated from Goheung Parish and became an independent parish in 1980.

Nokdong Catholic Church is therefore a place where a long-standing mission community in a coastal and island-connected region developed into a parish. Its present parish life stands in continuity with the local Catholic community that had been forming since the 1950s and 1960s.
