About this place
Namchang Mission Station is a Catholic mission community in Bukpyeong-myeon, Haenam County, within the southwestern district of the Archdiocese of Gwangju, and it belongs to Haenam Parish. The archdiocese identifies Bukpyeong-myeon, Bugil-myeon, and Hyeonsan-myeon as its pastoral area. Its essential character is that of a local community where Catholics in the southern part of Haenam, living at some distance from the parish center, can gather for prayer and communal faith life while remaining connected with their mother parish.
Namchang is not an independent parish church with the same canonical and pastoral status as a parish, but a mission station within the pastoral care of Haenam Parish. It is therefore best understood not primarily through the building itself, but through the function of the mission community: gathering Catholics dispersed across a broad rural and coastal area and linking them with the liturgical and pastoral life of the parish.
